The 2018 Chevy Traverse has been getting some attention due to its unique combination of technology, comfort, and design. Which, if you’ve been reading some of our other blogs, you know that the Traverse is one of our top picks for a “Mom Car.” This still holds true, but the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse is much more – it’s a mobile command center. Whether you are working out of your Chevy using the OnStar 4G LTE WiFi or hauling around friends and family, this SUV has a plethora of features to keep you moving.

With everything the new 2018 Chevy Traverse has to offer, we decided to provide an in-depth look.

The 2018 Chevy Traverse: The Technology

Since this vehicle is a mobile command center, that must mean that it will keep you pretty connected, right? With a Chevrolet MyLink display, Apple CarPlay™, and Android Auto™ compatibility, and the available OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi® connection, the Traverse offers everything you and your family need to stay connected, informed, and entertained, almost anywhere your day takes you.

This means, you can access your maps within the Apple CarPlay or you can play your favorite playlists on the Android Auto whenever you want! There’s even an available wireless charging station in the front console for compatible smartphones.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse: The Performance

The 2018 Chevy Traverse has a 9-speed transmission, which when paired with the 3.6L V6 or 2.0L turbo engine, the 9-speed automatic transmission offers smoother shifting and improved fuel economy. Also, the Traverse High Country offers an advanced twin-clutch all-wheel drive that improves driver control by directing torque to the wheel with the best traction in poor road conditions!

With Traction Mode Select, you can adjust performance based on road and surface conditions with the simple turn of a dial — whether you have the available all-wheel drive or the standard front-wheel drive.

The Traction Modes include:

  • Normal. This is the setting for every day. If you are equipped with the AWD, you can switch from the AWD to FWD to help improve fuel efficiency.
  • Off-Road. Available on AWD models, the Off-Road mode sends more torque to the rear wheels for improved driving on snow, grass, gravel, or loose dirt.
  • 4X4/Snow. The 4×4 mode (AWD) and Snow mode (FWD) help offer better control when snow and ice make road conditions slippery.
  • Tow/Haul. When equipped with the available trailering package, the Tow/Haul mode keeps the 2018 Chevy Traverse in a lower gear, offering more torque for when you need to pull a trailer.

The 2018 Chevy Traverse: The Safety

Protection is good, but prevention is better. Offering up to 14 advanced safety technologies, the Traverse uses cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar to watch out for potential hazards to help you avoid collisions before they happen. Here is a list of the various safety features offered on the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse:

  • Forward Collison Alert. Using camera technology, this available advanced feature alerts you to slowing vehicles detected in your path. Drivers can set the following front distance indicator to far, medium, near, or off.
  • Front Pedestrian Braking. If a collision with a pedestrian directly ahead is imminent and the driver has not already applied the brakes, this available system alerts the driver and can automatically apply the brakes to help reduce the collision’s severity or possibly avoid it altogether.
  • Low-Speed Automatic Braking. When Traverse is traveling below 50 mph and the system senses that a front-end collision with a detected vehicle is imminent, this available feature automatically applies the brakes to potentially help reduce the severity of impact. It may even help avoid an accident altogether at very low speeds.
  • Lane Keep Assist. If you unintentionally drift from your lane, the available Lane Keep Assist provides some gentle steering wheel turns and alerts to help you get your vehicle back in place if you don’t take action.
  • Full speed Automatic Braking. If the system detects that a front-end collision situation is imminent, and the driver has not already applied the brakes, this available system automatically applies the brakes to help reduce the collision’s severity.
  • Rear Vision Camera. As you shift into reverse, the standard rear vision camera automatically displays a live image of the area behind your vehicle on the MyLink touch-screen.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert. This available technology utilizes radar sensors to monitor approaching traffic passing behind the vehicle and alerts you through the standard rear vision camera screen.
  • Lane Change Alert. During a lane-change maneuver, this available advanced technology provides side mirror alerts to help you avoid a collision with a rapidly approaching vehicle.
  • Side Blind Zone Alert. This available feature uses short-range radar sensors to warn you when other vehicles are in your blind zone areas.
  • Rear Park Assist. Using ultrasonic sensors, available Rear Park Assist senses stationary objects, warns you if an object is too close, and uses guiding lines on the rear vision camera screen to help when backing up.
  • Surround Vision. Get twice the view just by looking at one screen. This available feature uses four strategically placed cameras to create a virtual bird’s eye view of the vehicle. While maneuvering in low speed, all camera viewpoints seamless merge to transmit a side-by-side digital image to the Chevrolet MyLink display, allowing you to see both the area behind and around you.
  • Rear Camera Mirror. Checking to make sure there’s nothing behind you but a clear view will help you feel even more confident. This available rearview mirror technology projects a wide-angle view of the area behind the vehicle onto the rearview mirror. The mirror surface doubles as a video screen and provides the driver with an unobstructed view of the area behind the vehicle.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control. To help reduce the need to brake and accelerate while using cruise control, this available technology automatically maintains a preset distance from the vehicle in front of you — even during stop-and-go traffic.
  • Intellibeam® Headlamps. This available technology automatically switches on the high beams when driving conditions become too dark, and switches back to low beams when it detects an approaching vehicle.
  • Teen Driver. The Teen Driver technology has a number of advanced features, from muting the audio until front-seat occupants are buckled, to automatically turning on available advanced safety technologies like Side Blind Zone Alert, Forward Collision Alert, and Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking. The in-vehicle report shows how your teen performed so you can identify problem areas and coach your new driver on improvements.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse: The Design

At the end of the day, the design features are what you fall in love with. So, here are some exciting features about the 2018 Traverse.

  • Available heated and ventilated front seats. Perfect for those hot or cool days when you need to be a little more comfortable.
  • Comfortable seating for up to 8 passengers. Whether you are moving an apartment full of stuff or hauling half of a soccer team, you will have a lot of space.
  • Enhanced Smart Slide® second-row seat. The enhanced Smart Slide® second-row seat on the passenger side of the vehicle can be slid and angled forward, allowing passengers easy access to the third-row seats — even when a car seat is in place. This means getting into that 3rd row doesn’t have to feel like you are fighting a battle every time someone sits in the back.
  • Cargo Space. The Traverse has a maximum cargo space of 98.5 cubic ft., which means you are ready to roll with all of that camping gear this summer!
  • Extra storage in the cargo space. Hidden under floor rear storage compartment? Yes, please!
  • Available wireless charging station. Who doesn’t love a possible wireless charging area for compatible smartphones in the front area around the front console?
  • Leather interior. The available leather-appointed interior with premium stitching makes you feel like you’re riding in luxury.
  • Hidden storage compartment in the front. With the touch of a button, the available Chevrolet MyLink display slides upward to reveal a hidden storage compartment and a USB port. To help keep your valuables secure, the compartment can be locked by inputting a four-digit PIN.
  • Quiet cabin with active noise-cancelling. Ahhh… peace and quiet.
  • Hands-Free Lift Gate. When you have your hands full, the available hands-free gesture liftgate can be opened by making a kicking motion with your foot below the bumper. To make things even easier, Traverse projects a Chevrolet logo on the ground to use as a guide! The liftgate also features a programmable memory height that can be set for easy reach or to accommodate areas with low ceilings. This is a lifesaver with you have your arms full of groceries!
