If you’ve driven the area between Southern Indiana and Kentucky before, it’s likely you’ve seen the issue of slow moving traffic and bottleneck formations. Those needing to transfer between these two states were left with inflamed travel times and costly fuel receipts.
Something needed to be done.
With the addition of the two new toll bridges, travel costs and efficiency are hopeful to improve. So what can you do to get the most out of this new infrastructure? Here are three tips to get you started.
3 Ways to Save While Using the RiverLink System
1. Sign Up.
The most important thing you can do to take advantage of the new toll bridges is to sign up with the RiverLink system. By registering your vehicle, you have taken the first step in getting a lower rate across the bridge.
Plus, it’s easy! There are three options to choose from in order to help you get your vehicle ready. You can sign up online, in person, or by phone.
Sign up online: https://riverlink.com/
Sign up by phone: 1-855 RIV-LINK (748-5465)
To sign up in person, visit your nearest customer service station.
2. Get a Free Transponder.
The transponder is what this new system will use to connect your vehicle with your account. It comes in the form of a sticker or small device which is placed on your windshield behind your rearview mirror.
If you are only planning to utilize the River Link toll bridges, the cheapest option is to get a RiverLink local transponder, this is the sticker version. This transponder comes free of charge and can help you get an even lower rate across the bridge than those who only registered their license plate or didn’t register at all.
Or if you plan to travel throughout the country, or switch between multiple registered vehicles, you may want to consider getting the EZ pass transponder. This transponder works intermittently with different toll bridges across the country, relieving the need for multiple devices. The cost of this transponder is $15 to start.
3. Get an Extra Discount for Being a Frequent Pre-paid User.
If you are planning to take full advantage of the new toll bridges and think you’ll be a frequent user, we’ve got great news. By signing up for a pre-paid plan, which automatically charges your debit, credit, or bank account, you can be eligible for further discounts. These discounts are applied to accounts where 40 or more trips are accrued per month.

In short, if you plan to use the new Kentuckiana toll bridges, signing up with RiverLink can help save you money and hopefully get you moving on to your next destination a little bit sooner. Alternatively, if you want to avoid the toll bridges all together, you still have the option of using the 2nd street bridge or the Sherman Minton bridge – toll-free.
