2018 Chevy Equinox

The 2018 Chevy Equinox is here and with an all new, redesigned look and feel. From its new body style to its new standard features, there wasn’t an aspect of the Equinox that Chevy didn’t revamp – inside or out!

The Mechanics of the 2018 Chevy Equinox

Chevy Equinox Engine Options:

The 2018 equinox features 3 engine options. One is currently available while the other two will be available in the summer of 2017.

The current offering is a 1.5L Turbo engine, featuring a 4-cylinder dual overhead cam design with variable valve timing, which provides 170HP and 203 lb/ft of torque.

Two more engine options will be available summer of 2017. A 1.6L turbo-diesel engine estimated by GM to offer 40 mpg highway as well as a 2.0L Turbo engine which is paired with an all new 9-speed automatic transmission, and offers 252HP and 260 lb/ft of torque. Additionally, it will provide 3,500 lbs of towing capacity.

Brakes on the Equinox:

All trim levels feature 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.

Suspension System:

All trim levels feature Stabilitrack, which is designed to help keep your vehicle under control during unexpected low traction conditions. As well as McPherson strut front suspension and 4-link rear suspension.

2018 Chevy Equinox Safety Features:

All-around safety:

The front of the 2018 Equinox provides the following safety features:

  • Low speed forward automatic braking, which automatically applies the brakes to potentially help reduce the severity of impact. It may even help avoid an accident altogether at very low speeds.
  • Lane Keep Assist, which provides gentle steering wheel turns and alerts to help you get your vehicle back in place if you don’t take action.
  • Forward Collision Alert, which alerts you to slowing vehicles detected in front of you.

The back of the 2018 Chevy Equinox is packed with these available safety features:

  • A rear vision camera, which helps you watch for hazards or other things behind you.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which utilizes radar sensors to monitor approaching traffic passing behind the vehicle and alerts you through the standard rear vision camera screen.
  • Rear Park Assist, which senses stationary objects, warns you if an object is too close, and uses guiding lines on the rear vision camera screen to help when backing up.
  • Side Blind Zone Alert, which uses short-range radar sensors to warn you when other vehicles are in your blind zone areas.
  • Lane Change Alert, which provides side mirror alerts to help you avoid a collision with a rapidly approaching vehicle.

Additionally, the Equinox features a comprehensive airbag system which includes dual stage frontal for the driver and passengers, thorax seat-mounted side impact for the driver and front passenger, and head curtain side-impact for the front and rear outboard seating positions.

Teen Driver Mode:

The teen driver system inside the 2018 Chevy Equinox will provide parents with a full status report when they let the kids borrow the car, telling them important info like distance driven, top speed, and any events that necessitated use of the various safety systems. They can set limits on speed, distance driven, and even stereo volume.

Additionally, the system will give the teen audible and visual warnings when the vehicle is traveling over the predetermined speeds, and even mute the audio system when front-seat occupants aren’t wearing their safety belts.

OnStar Automatic Crash Response:

If a collision occurs, the Equinox acts quickly with the available OnStar automatic crash response system. Vital information is replayed to trained OnStar advisors who can then request emergency assistance even if you’re unable to respond.

The Exterior of the 2018 Equinox:


All models feature glass with acoustic properties that help block road noise. The LT and Premier models feature deep tinted rear glass.


The headlamps on the 2018 Equinox vary depending on the trim level you choose:

The L and LS models feature standard halogen headlamps, while the LT model upgrades to HID headlamps and the Premier model will feature full LED headlamps, as well as full LED taillamps.

The LED lamps not only provide improved visibility but a longer lasting bulb. The Premier model has available Intellibeam headlamps. They will automatically turn on and off according to surrounding traffic conditions. The automatic high beams will stay on until it detects an approaching vehicle’s headlamps.


The outside mirrors are heated and power adjustable on all models. The LT and Premier models feature auto-dimming body-color mirrors with turn signal indicators. Additionally, the Premier model adds chrome caps.

Roof Packages:

All trim levels feature side roof rails. The LT and Premier models feature available roof rack cross rails, which conveniently attach to the side cross rails to allow for luggage carrier compatibility. The Premier model features chrome side rails.


The 2018 Equinox Premier trim level features a panoramic sunroof. It opens over both the front and rear seats. Additionally, it can tilt to provide extra ventilation.

Wheels & Tires:

All trim levels feature aluminum wheels with all-season black wall tires. The L, LS, and LT models feature 17″ aluminum wheels. The Premier model goes a small step up to 18″ aluminum wheels but has the available 19″ ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels with Sparkle Silver Pockets, which pair with 19″ all-season black wall tires.

Rear Gate:

The power rear liftgate can be opened in a variety of ways. The key fob features a button that can open the trunk. As well as the button under the Chevy bowtie.

Additionally, Chevy has implemented its gesture control to the rear gate. If you have your hands, full simply swipe your leg under the center of the bumper to open or close the rear door.

Sculpted Body Style:

The 2018 Equinox has been completely redesigned. It features bolder edges and contours, giving the crossover an edgier premium look.

The rear of the vehicle highlights this with a noticeably chiseled bumper. If you put the 2017 and 2018 models side by side, you can see the standard straight lines of the 2017 have been replaced by elegant curvature in 2018.

The Interior of the 2018 Equinox:

Center Console:

The center console on the L, LS, and LT features a 7″ diagonal color touch screen with Chevy’s MyLink audio system. The LT model has the option for an 8″ diagonal touch screen, while the Premier model comes standard with the 8″ screen option and Chevy’s MyLink navigation.


The L, LS, and LT models feature a single USB port under the center console to allow the use of Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Premier model features dual USB ports under the center console. As well as 2 ports available inside the armrest and 2 USB ports located in the back of the armrest for rear seat use.

Chevrolet MyLink:

The Chevrolet Mylink system features vary by model. The L, LS, and LT models feature the standard system, while the Premier model features the complete MyLink system that features the top of the line user interface.

The base MyLink system has received a facelift from Chevy. The 2017 MyLink system featured outdated graphics and clunky animations, the 2018 system has been cleaned up and provides a lot of powerful technology. Of course, the user interface is improved further when operating inside a Premier model. It utilizes the interface used in Chevy’s top of the line models. It is clean and full featured, offering the standard audio, phone, projection, and navigation features while complementing those with weather, text, traffic, and surround vision.

  • The audio tab features a standard AM/FM radio, MP3 functionality, AUX input, and bluetooth audio options.
  • The phone tab allows you to connect your phone to not only make calls, but to access your contacts, incoming/outgoing calls, and view your voicemail.
  • The projection tab allows you to access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • The Navigation tab allows you to access MyLink navigation, which can provide turn by turn directions, as well as certain off-road maps.
  • The weather tab provides access to current hourly weather projections as well as projections for the week, provided by the National Weather Service.
  • The text tab allows certain devices to use their text messaging capabilities.
  • The camera tab provides access to not only the rear camera but as well as the front camera and 360 overhead camera which gives you a birds-eye view of the area around your Equinox.
  • The traffic tab gives you a list of different traffic accidents and areas of congestion in your area.

Sound System:

The Premier model features a Bose Premium 7 speaker audio system, which provides a rich, full concert like sound experience.


The L, LS, and LT models feature single-zone manual air conditioning. The Premier model comes standard with dual-zone automatic air conditioning. This allows both sides of the cabin to set their area to their desired temperature. The Equinox uses sensors strategically located around the cabin to constantly monitor the interior conditions to effectively maintain the desired temperature.

Rear View Mirrors:

The L, LS, and LT models feature a manual day/night rearview mirror, while the Premier model features an auto-dimming mirror.


All models feature front bucket seats. The LT and Premier models feature heated driver and front passenger seats. The Premier model features heated rear seats as well as ventilated driver/front passenger seats.

The L and LS seats feature 4-way manual driver/front passenger seats. The LT and Premier models feature 8-way power adjustable driver seats, as well as available 8-way power front passenger seats.

Steering Wheel:

All models feature a 3 spoke steering wheel, the Premier features a leather wrapped upgrade. Additionally, the Premier features a heated option.


The 2018 Equinox offers a spacious interior with generous trunk space while maintaining comfortable leg room for both front and rear passengers. The trunk features 29.9 cubic feet of space, that can expand to 63.5 cubic feet with the second row folded down. Front passengers can enjoy 3.5 feet of leg room, with the rear passengers enjoying approximately the same amount of space.
