logo-footerFrom high heels to high tops, you can find them all in a box inside Bachman Chevrolet’s main office. The box has been set up for customers and employees to donate any new or used shoes in good condition to benefit WaterStep, a local charity that strives to save lives by providing safe drinking water to people in developing countries and those domestically involved in disaster relief emergencies.

According to WaterStep, 8.75 million people currently live without access to safe drinking water every day. WaterStep’s goal is to see the day when everyone has safe water to drink. In an effort to accomplish that goal, they have established a shoe donation program which sells these shoes to an exporter. The proceeds go to help finance various water projects throughout the community and abroad.

Bachman Chevrolet Owner Teresa Bachman says supporting this organization was an easy decision because the work WaterStep is doing is life-changing and unique.

“Safe drinking water shouldn’t be a luxury. Water is a world-wide necessity and clean water is even more important. WaterStep is doing things to achieve that, that nobody else is doing,” Bachman said.

Over 2.2 million people could be saved just by having safe drinking water. Nearly 5,000 children who die daily from diseases caused by unclean water could be saved by giving them access to clean drinking water. By Sponsoring a Shoe Donation, Bachman Chevrolet hopes to help lower those statistics and fund a mission that saves thousands of lives every year.

WaterStep has been working to lower those statistics for nearly 20 years now. What started out as Edge, a one-man small, mission-based group, has evolved into a booming organization with a presence in over 30 countries, with a passion to find new areas that need access to clean water. WaterStep is a firm believer that “water is medicine.” Check out their website here and read more about the different projects and services they provide around the world.

If you would like to be a part of the training and technology to heal a thirsty world, stop by Bachman Chevrolet and donate your shoes. The donation box is located in the main building and should be around for the next six months to a year, or until Bachman is able to fill the large box. Come out and donate to just one of the local charities Bachman supports and believes in. Your involvement will help us take one more step toward safe drinking water.
