Chevrolet has created the perfect storm, a collision of streamlined design and genius engineering. With advanced technologies, a race-proven bloodline, and a supercharged engine, the all-new 2015 Corvette Z06 catapults Stingray into supercharged status, a vehicle constructed for road and racing. This car was built to elevate your driving experience to the next level. Here’s how it was done.
Engineers took off by tweaking what they learned by designing the Corvette Racing C6.R and applied that knowledge to the 2014 Corvette Stingray. Then, using the Stingray as a foundation, the Z06 and C7.R were co-developed to push the envelope of performance on the street and on the track. The result was an unprecedented machine with added chassis architecture, engine technologies, and aerodynamic strategies.
CORVETTE Z06 DESIGNED FOR DOWNFORCE IN 2015
Every exterior change to the 2015 Corvette serves a functional purpose, as this supercar now explodes with more of everything. Wider flared fenders now accommodate larger, wider wheels and tires for more grip. Larger vents provide more cooling air to the engine, brakes, transmission, and differential for increased track capability. More aggressively designed aerodynamic packages generate true downforce for more cornering grip and high-speed stability. The rear of the vehicle has been extended by 80mm and the front design has been extended by 56mm, creating a more arresting stance and delivering enhanced handling.
AERODYNAMIC DOWNFORCE OF THE 2015 CHEVY CORVETTE
The all-new Corvette Z06 offers three levels of aerodynamic downforce. The standard Z06 features a front splitter, spats around the front wheel openings, a unique carbon-fiber hood with larger vent, and a rear spoiler from the Corvette Stingray’s available Z51 Performance Package. Moving up one level you will discover a Carbon-Fiber Aero Package (in black or visible carbon-fiber finish), which adds a carbon fiber front splitter with aviation-style winglets, carbon-fiber rocker panels, and a larger rear spoiler with a fixed wickerbill, a small vertical tab a the edge of the spoiler that significantly increases downforce. Bump up to the top level and the available Z07 Package adds even larger winglets to the front splitter, along with an adjustable, transparent center section on the rear spoiler for track use. With this top level package, the Corvette Z06 delivers the most aerodynamic downforce of any production car that GM has ever tested.
CORVETTE Z06 INCREASES AIR FLOW TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE DYNAMICS
The 2015 Corvette Z06 is designed with a unique mesh grille which features dedicated brake-cooling intakes and wider grille outlets, and a larger hood vent. These features not only vent the hot air from the engine compartment, but also contribute to downforce. Larger front fender vents and air blades over the inlets on the rear fenders, along with standard front and rear brake-cooling ducts, all contribute to the additional cooling elements necessary to increase air flow which maximizes performance dynamics.
POWERFUL PERFORMANCE OF THE CHEVY CORVETTE Z06
Powered by an LT4 supercharged 6.2L aluminum V8 engine delivering at least 625 horsepower and 635 lb.-ft. or torque, the Corvette Z06 engine now incorporates a more efficient, more compact, next-generation supercharger in addition to a dry sump oil system, lightweight titanium intake valves, and connecting rods for reduced reciprocating mass. In conjunction with the advanced engine technologies, Corvette engineers have also managed to increase LT4 fuel efficiency by using similar technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray.
Choice of Transmissions
Delivering over 600 horsepower and offering a choice of 7-speed manual or an all-new available track-certified 8-speed paddle-shift automatic, the 2015 Corvette is performance minded. The standard 7-speed with Active Rev Matching enhances the driving experience by simulating heel-toe shifting perfection at the touch of a switch. For the smooth control of a true automatic, try the available 8-speed paddle-shift automatic that creates quick, precise shifting and manual mode for track driving.
Fine-tune Your Corvette Driving Experience
Five distinct, selectable driver modes electronically calibrate up to 12 performance variables to customize and optimize the Corvette Z06 supercar for any road experience. Choose Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport or Track mode to contour your traction management or adjust your Magnetic Selective Ride Control. Selective controls also allow you to stiffen suspension for optimal performance driving and also allows for brake intervention and torque reduction when track driving.
Hug the Road
For tight grip of the road, the 2015 Corvette Z06 offers your choice of standard Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP tires or the track-proven Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ZP tires included with the available Z07 Performance package. Brembo brakes will increase your performance and decrease weight while delivering confident stopping power. Large rotors, 14.6″/14.4″ two-piece steel rotors or available 15.5″/15.3″ carbon-ceramic rotors with Z07 Performance Package, will keep your stops precise.
